What do you get for membership in NCAE?

You get me---NCAE UniServ Director Glenna Hicks. I was a public school teacher for 30 years, 21 of them in Robeson County. A history teacher, I also taught part time at Bladen Community College before I retired and part time at RCC after retirement. For several years I was RAE President. Without knowing it, I was receiving on-the-job training for the post of NCAE UniServ Director. For going on four years I have been in this office and responded to the problems of hundreds of members.
If you have a problem in any way related to your job do not hesitate to call. 739-2122 or (800)635-9152. If there is no answer, leave a message with your number. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
All levels---NEA, NCAE, RAE---have benefits to offer members. Do you need advice about investing? NEA sponsors a Money Market Account, sponsors a CD, and advises and invests for you through the Valuebuilder Program. Need a loan for a car or home, or both? There is NEA Home Financing and NEA Personal Loans. There is all and any kinds of insurance you can possibly need. Horace Mann Insurance (Phyllis Leviner in Maxton) gives a substantial discount to members.
You get a membership card with numbers on it. Go to www.ncae.org, click on the picture of the card at the top and register your number. Then you can get to the members only pages where you will find numerous discounts at restaurants and hotels. There you can also find vacation discounts for such favorites as Universal Studios, Anheuser-Busch Theme Parks and Paramount Theme Parks. If you are interested in week-end getaways to Myrtle Beach your membership can get you seasonal discounts at Alabama Threatre, Discount coupons for the Dixie Stampede and the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament.
The Members Only page also gets you the NCAE Center for Teaching and Learning where you can find all kinds of teaching aids, the latest from SDPI, and instructions on getting help to pass the PRAXIS or becomming National Board Certified.
In need of a new or used car? The Car Connection will serve you with no fee if you have NCAE membership. I plan to use this myself within the coming year.
Separate and apart from any school connected legal services you might need and receive through NCAE, NCAE can provide you with a list of attorneys for personal matters. Due to your membership, these attorneys will give you 30% off their regular fees and two free 30-minute consultation sessions per year. This comes in handy for domestic problems or future plans, like making a will.
The Robeson Association of Educators offers a number of local discounts that you can hear about from your school rep or read about in the newsletter.
If you have not joined, do so today. Completely new teachers are covered in every way from the moment they sign their form. Those who have previously had the opportunity to join, but have not done so, cannot get legal services until 120 days have passed from the date of joining. Pre-existing conditions (before membership) are not covered for legal problems either. Everyone does get the services of the UniServ as soon as they sign up.
There's more, but I will let you join, get your card, and discover. If you cannot find your school rep, call me. I will come to see you. Do not let another day go by without joining your Professional organization!
